Across Africa, healthcare systems are still set up to react to sickness instead of preventing it. Non-communicable diseases already account for a large share of deaths and costs, and a small percentage of high-risk members drive the majority of claims. At the same time, most corporate wellness programs struggle to get even 10% participation—meaning risk is rarely identified or addressed early enough.
Zimasa was created to change that: by giving organizations an engagement layer that activates members, connects them to vetted providers, and shows—in numbers—what’s working and what isn’t.

Our Story & Timeline
Zimasa grew out of decades of working inside payer and employer systems and seeing the same pattern repeat: sophisticated technology to process claims, very little to prevent them.
In 2023, Zimasa was founded as a focused venture building on the TurnQuest Medical Insurance System (TMS)—a payer platform that had served insurers for over two decades. We modernized the core and added what the market was demanding: an engagement layer that connects payers, employers, providers, and members to orchestrate preventive care at scale.
2023 - 2024
Zimasa founded. First phase: modernise the payer core and deepen health data capabilities.
2024 - 2025
Launched the Zimasa Health Engagement Platform (ZHEP) and refreshed the Payer Solution—with early pilots connecting members to gyms, clinics, labs, mental health and nutrition providers through one engagement layer.
Future
Expand across Africa, deepen AI-powered risk identification and personalization, integrate with more health and HR systems, and continue proving that prevention can be made easy, measurable and contractable.
Meet the Founder
Kizito Makatiani — Founder & CEO
Before starting Zimasa, Kizito spent more than two decades building insurance technology at Turnkey Africa, where he led the development of the TurnQuest platform and worked with insurers across seven African countries. That experience showed him a hard truth: we’ve become very good at documenting sickness, but not nearly good enough at preventing it.
Zimasa is his answer to that problem—a Health Engagement OS purpose-built for Africa, designed to help payers, employers and providers catch risk earlier, activate members into preventive programs, and prove the impact with real-world data.
